In the play, if Mercutio isn%26#039;t a Montegue, why does he offer to fight Tybalt anyway? Does he hate Capulet%26#039;s too? Or is it just a personal thing with Tybalt?

he%26#039;s just romeos friend. he gets fired up really easy and likes to fight!!!! he%26#039;s more on romeos side, and i think he is related to the prince in some way. he doesnt like how tybalt treats romeo!
Reply:Mercutio is best friend%26#039;s with Romeo. Tybalt offered Romeo a challenge to a duel because he showed up to the Capulet party (where he met Juliet). Romeo and Juliet get married. Romeo tells Tybalt that he has to love him as his own and refuses to fight. Tybalt can%26#039;t accept that, and starts to beat up Romeo. Mercutio steps in because he doesn%26#039;t want to see his friend get hurt.
